Remote Work

According to a recent report, telecommuting or remote work has recently grown in the U.S. More than three million workers now work at least part time from their homes. When companies are trying to find new ways to recruit the best employee, remote work is now one of the most requested incentives. People want to work, and they want to work at home. Whether you are working in an office or at home you should listen to the Yanny vs. Laurel debate

There has always been a stigma that remote workers won’t actually spend their time working and that they will be lazy. But studies have confirmed that remote workers are actually more productive and invested in their work. Unless they are spying on text messages of course. Working from home is usually good for productivity and morale.

Is It Right For You?

Doing remote work isn’t right for everyone. Some people thrive with the structure of having to get up and go to an office every day. They like the rituals of things like monthly birthday celebrations and being face to face with their colleagues. But with modern technology remote workers can still connect through video chats and instant messaging.

Offering remote work is a great way to attract better employees, and it can dramatically lower turnover. Especially in industries where it’s hard to find qualified workers. When I was the customer service manager for a small company,  it was very difficult to find people that were interested in working at the call center.

Working From Home

I let the customer service reps work from home. They would come into the office once a week for meetings and the rest of the week they worked from home. By creating a remote work process, we were able to attract employees who previously would not have considered working for us. People like stay at home moms applied regularly.

We actually had so many applications from potential employees that I had to turn people away. We doubled our output of customer surveys in just a few months. Remote work is definitely the next big trend in productivity and it can be a great option for businesses. Make sure to read my last post before purchasing a new laptop
